Star Map
Installation in Stavanger, Norway
Painted glass globes, LEDs, solar panels, transformer
Dimensions variable
2008

This installation consists of two three-dimensional star maps. The north atrium contains a map of the brightest 50 stars seen from the northern hemisphere and the south atrium contains the fifty brightest stars from the southern hemisphere. The location of each illuminated globe is determined by the star's location in the night sky and the height is determined by the star's distance from earth. The color of each globe refers to the wavelength of light that the star emits. The installation is powered via solar panels on the roof of the building.
