This LED lamp installation takes Reflets Dans L’eau, Claude Debussy’s composition for solo piano, as a starting point and inspiration. The pitches in the opening of the music have been translated into colors, with each vertical lightbulb representing a chord (a musical vertical moment). This work includes 26 colors, each representing a specific musical pitch and register, selected from a palette of blues, greens, and purples. These colors are representative of the water themes in Reflets Dans L’eau as well as Debussy’s association with French Impressionist painters, who often worked within a similar color world.
