Haiku (Kenrokuen, Spring)
Fluorescent fixtures and filters
48” x 16”
2020
This fluorescent light work is based on the idea of a haiku which consists of 3 lines using the 5/7/5 syllable structure. Presented vertically like in Japanese writing, the 15 syllables are represented as 15 different colors. The work recreates light measured at the Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa, Japan. The first lamp is based on color observations of azaleas, the second lamp cherry blossoms and the third irises.
