Grand Canyon from Valhalla Point with My Eyes Closed (morning, late morning, noon, evening)
Ink on Mutsu paper
21” x 99”
1995

Recorded at four different times of day with eyes closed while standing at the rim of the Grand Canyon, the resulting ink drawings show the gradations of reddish-orange visible on the inside of the artist’s eyelids as the sun shone through his capillaries. As the light changed, so did the view of his eyelids. Coincidentally, the colors correspond to those of the rock of the canyon itself.
