Floating Cherry Blossoms (Stream)
Archival inkjet photographs
Five photographs at 20 1/2” x 20 1/2”
2016

These photographs, inspired by the dreamy tradition of Japanese poems on the subject of floating cherry blossoms, explore the complex optics of fallen cherry blossoms floating in a stream in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Depicted in each image are three levels of imagery:  the blossoms floating on the water, the reflection of the sky and trees overhead, and the sandy, leaf-covered bed of the stream that is visible in the shadowy areas.
