These photographs are based on a 17th century Japanese calligraphic scroll in which the poet mistakes fallen cherry blossoms floating in a river as reflections of clouds. The photographs depict floating cherry blossoms in the pond of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. They were deliberately shot out of focus to the point where they hover between appearance as floating cherry blossoms and cloud-like forms.
